Who is that weird lady with paint on her face?
My name is Chris Warburton Hulme (she/her). I am a neurodivergent acrylics and mixed media artist living my best art life on the East Coast of Canada in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia. 5 years ago I suddenly had an urge to slap globs of paint onto paper and haven’t stopped since. As a late in life diagnosed female autistic, my art allows me to express what I find difficult to articulate in the spoken word.
I create my vibrant mixed media art using acrylic paint, original hand-painted collage papers, hand-drawn images, art collage paper, and carefully curated public domain images. You won’t see magazines, old books or antique papers in my collage. I strive to use acid free materials which contribute to the quality and longevity of my work.
My work is colourful, quirky, sometimes sentimental, and often cheeky! My art often has a story behind it and frequently draws on my own life experiences. This includes a passion for women's empowerment with a personal connection to those who have experienced gender-based violence. I infuse my art with powerful and fun feminism, and I am a fierce believer in the power of joy spreading.
My studio is my dining room. We never eat in the dining room anyway. My favourite colour is pink.
Fun fact: I am an identical twin who is also a Granny to two silly little identical twin grandsons! Sometimes they help get me started on my art!
