My distant cousin Georgina was a Suffragette who went into the world and made space for herself and for all women to come. She didn’t apologize for it. She even went to jail for it. But that didn’t stop her from claiming her right to her own destiny and the destiny of the women of the future.
The napkin you see behind the teapot is a printout of the Suffragette Handkerchief on which Georgina embroidered her name while imprisoned for throwing bricks into a department store window during a window smashing campaign with the Suffragettes in London, England in 1912. Her signature is in the top corner along with signatures of other women with whom she was imprisoned.
Unapologetically Taking Up Space is part of my No Apologies collection.
