Charity Can Do It

$195.00

The 2025 International Women's Day theme was Accelerate Action for gender equality.

If you haven’t seen the Netflix film, “The Six Triple Eight,” stop what you’re doing right now and go watch it. This film is inspired by the true events of Charity Adams who lead the only American Women’s Army Corps unit of colour in World War II. I don’t want to give any spoilers if you haven’t seen it yet, so I won’t go into too many details. Adams’ unit was given the insurmountable task of sorting through a monumental backlog of mail between soldiers and their families during WW II. Having been a military spouse during a time with no Internet, no e-mail, and very infrequent phone calls, letters and care packages to my husband were a lifeline for him. For him not to receive those things, and for me not to hear back from him would have destroyed moral and cause great mental anguish.

For International Women’s Day 2025 I created a collection of “Women In History” who inspired ways to Accelerate Action in gender equality. I have portrayed them each as a version of the legendary Rosie the Riveter, which is mirrored by the images in the 2025 IWD campaign. They are each striking a Rosie the Riveter pose and I have used the same colours as you see in the iconic poster. Finally, they each have their own version of Rosie’s red with white polka dot head scarf.
